Last years mainstream media such as CNN, The TImes of India and The Guardian start to offer also good news. Robbert Zoon has been publishing inspiring news online from 2005 till 2010. And for three consecutive years he organized the National Good News Day, an event in which more than 20 Dutch media participated each year. (see video)
What is news? Wikipedia's definition of news is pretty wide and objective: "news is information about current events". However in the news business there’s an old saying, one that’s guided editorial thinking for decades: “If it bleeds, it leads.” That is, stories of violence, tragedy, dysfunction and corruption get top billing driven by the assumption that these are the stories the public will be most drawn to watch or read.
According to the founder of Huffington Post this is not correct and it's time for change. "Journalists should give us the full picture of what is going on in the world." Read this!
